Foot in the Door

Earlier this year Ed was in a production of "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" directed by the extremely talented Tim Riggs. After a few months of coordinating schedules (understandably difficult as Tim is both a new husband and a new father), Tim and Ed were finally able to sit down and talk about acting, directing, the craft, and John Denver.

I'm very pleased to have Maria Walton as my guest on this episode. Maria isn't just a runner...and not just a marathon runner. She's an ultra marathon runner with a story that is at times heartbreaking, at times triumphant, but always inspirational.

If you're into the running world, then the name Micah True may be familiar to you (his story is the basis of the book "Born to Run" by Christopher McDougall). You'll hear the story of how Maria and Micah met, learn about their work together on the Ultra Caballo Blanco Ultra Marathon (a 50+ mile race up and down the hills of Urique, Mexico of which Maria is still co-race director), and find out how Mariah faced True's unexpected passing.

This is an episode not just for marathon runners but for anyone looking to be inspired by the beautiful mariposa.

Ed is pleased to join comedian Lachlan Patterson in his garage to discuss the life of being a stand-up comedian. From growing up in Vancouver to his move to California - and then back...and back again - to appearing on the latest season of "Last Comic Standing," Lachlan covers it all. A genuine guy with an eye for garbage, Lachlan makes this episode one that you won't wanna miss!

One doesn't begin playing Telltale's "The Walking Dead" video game and expect to be moved by a song, but that's exactly what happened to Ed. In this episode he tracks down the band behind the music and chats with J.T. Bailey, Andrew Arcadi, and Keri Bailey of Anadel (and is treated to a surprise appearance by Steven Bailey at the end!). Not only does Ed find out how they went from a small band in Napa, CA to appearing on one of the most talked about video games series in recent history, but he also finds some inspiration along the way. It's been over ten years since Ed has spoken to Sammy Ward but the guys don't have a problem picking up right where they left off. Ed not only gets Sammy to re-tell one of his favorite stories (it has to do with a sack o' ham, that's all you need to know), but he also gets to hear a bunch of new tales as he finds out what Sammy's been up to in the last decade or so.

Ed is super-excited to sit down with Tobin Hyman and becomes even more excited when he finds out Tobin lives on a boat. When they first met, Tobin was working as TobyMac's PA. A few years have passed and now Tobin is working as a talent scout for NBC's "The Voice." The conversation is encouraging and inspiring as Tobin shares his thoughts on the music industry. Not only is he a super-cool guy, but it's also nice to find someone who is aware of - and thankful for - how truly blessed he is to be where he is, and where he came from.

It's late, he just got home and hasn't even had his dinner yet, and still he's game for a little conversation. That's just how accomodating Paul Valenti is. Ed catches up with the Italian half of The Chris & Paul Show - and his eggplant - for a conversation on improv, sketch, and The Stooges.

Yes, it's true, Jack Wolfe is the pastor at Epic Faith in Duluth GA. But really, he's so much more than that. To begin with, he isn't what you think of when you think of a pastor, and that is meant in the best way possible. Ed re-connects with his high school youth leader in a compelling conversation that mixes deep thought with deep laughs.

Although we've exchanged messages and emails over the years, I haven't actually spoken with my Ball State Theatre professor Beth Turcotte since 1990. To say this conversation was long overdue would be a major understatement. As you'll hear in the interview, Beth is great to be near and a generous, giving person who can't help but change the lives of those around her for the better.

It's a coast to coast chat with my dear friend, Adi Blotman. I met Adi while I was living in New York City and we were both performing improv at the National Comedy Theater. Adi is now on the Left Coast and it was good to catch up and, not only find out what she's doing now, but discover what she did before we knew each other. Grab a cup of coffee and join us!

They always say two Eds are better than when and when Placencia and Doney are the two Eds, well…the jury's still out on whether or not that saying holds up. Experience the lighter, funnier side of a news reporter as Ed Doney stops by the Foot in the Door podcast to talk broadcasting, Ball State, and Weird Al.

Ed thought he knew what was in store when he sat down with barista and US Coffee Competition competitor Hadassah Wilson. He didn't, and what he got was a conversation deeper and as honest as any he's ever had.

Ed returns to The Frothy Monkey in Franklin TN to speak with Jim Chaffee and is pleasantly surprised by how much of Jim's story he didn't know. As well-rounded of a guy as you'll ever meet, Jim has some thoughtful insights into the world of music, books, managament, and entertainment.
